Ant-Man 3 permanently changes the MCU in the biggest story yet

Out of all the Marvel movies to get fans buzzing after Comic-Con, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania seems to be the most buzzworthy of them all. Those who attended Comic-con were surprised to see the serious route Ant-Man 3 has taken and director Peyton Reed has added fire to that fuel, claiming that this installment will change the MCU permanently.

Ant-Man makes a giant change to the MCU

Speaking with Access, Peyton Reed emphasized just how important Scott Lang’s role will be in MCU Phase Five. Obviously, Scott will be important in Ant-Man 3 but Reed says his role is much bigger than that, claiming he’s going to be the center of change when it comes to Phase Five’s Multiverse Saga.

“And yeah, kicking off Phase 5 is really exciting for us, because, we’re the Ant-Man movies. It’s our third movie. It’s this trilogy now,” explains Reed. “But things happen in this movie that are going to change the Marvel Cinematic Universe permanently. And it’s fun for us that Scott Lang is at the center of that change.”

Paul Rudd also commented on the third film changing things up. Speaking with Variety, he describes Quantumania as a “pretty thrilling story” that “goes into some wild directions.” Considering how most fans have criticized the Ant-Man films for being too safe, this could be the kick that the MCU sub-series needed.

“It’s really exciting to kick off Phase 5, and… you know, it was a pretty thrilling story. And it was great to kind of do a third film, but one that felt even bigger and more surprising than the other two,” says Rudd. “It goes into some wild directions and to kinda be the one that kicks that off is cool.”

Quantumania will kick off Secret Wars?

Based on everything we’ve heard from Peyton Reed and Paul Rudd, it seems that Ant-Man 3 is going to officially start the road to the upcoming Avengers movies. The fact that Scott Lang’s Ant-Man will be taking on Kang, who is set to be the main antagonist in Kang Dynasty, is very telling.

We’ve seen some teases to Secret Wars as well, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness outright mentioning the incursions in the multiverse. Ms. Marvel and Shang-Chi have also brought up the idea of other dimensions trying to invade the MCU’s Earth.

Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania is set to kick off MCU Phase Five on February 17, 2023.
