Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is going to be one of this month’s biggest releases since it’s the sequel to one of PlayStation’s best exclusives. However, those hoping for a bonus for having saves of Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales are out of luck.

On Twitter, Community Director James Stevenson was asked if the developers are adding any special rewards for those who have a saved file of the previous titles. Stevenson was blunt and said ‘They are not,’ so players hoping for an early costume unlock or extra XP might be disappointed.

While the news is disappointing, it’s not exactly surprising since this series hasn’t added rewards in previous sequels or re-releases. Fans didn’t get a bonus in Miles Morales for playing the first game, so it probably wasn’t going to happen here.

To be fair, we don’t blame fans for thinking that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have a save-file bonus. Square Enix recently confirmed that Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth has special Summon bonuses for fans who have saves for Remake and the Intergrade DLC. It would have been a nice gesture from Insomniac but playing these games is reward enough.

Prior to being a PlayStation exclusive, the older Spider-Man games under Activision did have some bonuses for save files. For example, Spider-Man: Edge of Time rewarded players who had a Shattered Dimensions save with costumes from that game. It was a nice gesture and one that would have been nice to see in the Insomniac titles.

Despite the lack of save file bonuses, there’s still a lot to look forward to when Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 comes out this month. There are over 65 costumes to unlock for both characters, with customisable colors that add a more personalized touch to each suit. Fans also have optional fall damage if they want more of a challenge, though this writer likes things the way they are.
