Starfield is the biggest Xbox exclusive Microsoft has had in a long while, with some arguing it's their biggest one ever. Bethesda head Todd Howard hopes this is the case, as he wants the sci-fi RPG to be to Xbox what Zelda is to Nintendo.

During an interview with BBC, Howard mentioned how he hopes Starfield can be Xbox’s Zelda, in a way. Howard brought up how fans associate certain games with their consoles and hopes this sci-fi RPG will be synonymous with Xbox going forward.

"I do also think people attach brands to certain games. When you think of Zelda you think of the Switch and I think there are times when that can be a real benefit," Howard said.

The Bethesda boss also defended the decision to keep this sci-fi RPG exclusive, claiming it led to development being more focused. Granted, this RPG does have a number of the typical Bethesda bugs fans have grown accustomed to but it also has more freedom than ever before.

Microsoft clearly thinks highly of Starfield and the company has been given plenty of reason for that. When the RPG’s gameplay showcase was first shown, it broke records and immediately became the company’s most-viewed online show. Fans also outright bought Xbox systems just to play the space sim, showing it was a true system seller.

Prior to the sci-fi epic’s release, Xbox barely had any exclusives that it could cling to. Hi-Fi Rush helped start the trend for quality Microsoft exclusives but part of that was due to its stealth release and cheaper price. On the other side of the coin, Redfall had plenty of hype and previews but is now considered one of the worst Xbox exclusives ever.
