A new Age of Empires 2 Skyrim mod brings Tamriel’s Nordic homeland into Microsoft’s beloved RTS game. Close to release, the new mod aims to combine Bethesda’s ever-popular role-playing game with the also always-popular RTS.
Developed by modder Grouchy_Bluejay4511 on Reddit, the new Age of Empires 2 Skyrim mod will be a full conversion with its own quests, locations, characters and more. You’ll be able to conquer the entire map of Skyrim within the strategy game, while also engaging in some brand-new stories.
The modded explained that the Age of Empires 2 mod currently houses “50+ unique quests” as well as 100 different characters. In the mod, you play as one of the Holds attempting to gain control of the region.
At the time of writing, the modification is currently unavailable to play. However, the add on is in its final round of bug fixing. After all the bugs have been ironed out, Grouchy_Bluejay4511 aims to release the mod on the Steam Workshop for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition.
The upcoming mod doesn’t just include the entirety of the region of Skyrim, but also the game’s DLC expansion: Solthseim. An island to the northeast of Skyrim and to the northwest of Morrowind’s Vvardenfell, the island was included in Morrowind’s Bloodmoon expansion alongside werewolf content.

Only a few screenshots of the huge RTS mod have been released at the time of publishing. While the mod does follow Age of Empire’s more autumnal aesthetic, the region’s cities look stunning amongst the saturated oranges and greens of AoE 2’s base landscapes.
Despite being built with existing Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition assets, the silhouette of Skyrim’s stunning cities and locations still shine in this incredibly impressive mod.
Alongside a healthy modding community, new Age of Empires 2 content is currently on the way. The new Age of Empires 2 Mountain Royals DLC was leaked on the Microsoft Store, revealing the next expansion for the PC and Xbox RTS game.
