The MultiVersus fatal error issue is another bug that gamers have been encountering as they explore this game. Between this, the MultiVersus lag issue, and the other problems players have had, there are certainly plenty of problems to try and avoid.

But much like those other errors, the MultiVersus fatal error doesn't need to be terminal. There are fixes that can help to mitigate this issue. Read on for our top tips to help you overcome this glitch, and continue enjoying MultiVersus.

How To Fix The MultiVersus Fatal Error

There are a lot of potential remedies for the MultiVersus fatal error. We'd suggest that you work your way through these until you find the one that (hopefully) works for you.

We'll start with some of the most obvious and straightforward fixes:

  • Start by checking for game updates. Any pending updates could potentially include patches for any glitches or bugs.
  • It's also important to check for any pending system updates, or graphics driver updates.
  • Check for any server issues by following the official MultiVersus Twitter page. If there are any outages, then you'll need to wait until those are resolved before trying again.
  • For anyone who uses a VPN, disabling it and connecting to a local server can remedy the issue, especially if your VPN is connecting to a server in a country that doesn't offer support for the game.
  • It may seem obvious, but make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements for the game. If your system can't cope, then no amount of troubleshooting will help.
  • Disable your antivirus and firewall. These can often block software that requires an active internet connection. You can try temporarily disabling these programs, and see if it stops the error.
  • Check your own internet connection. Plenty of errors are triggered by an unstable or slow connection, so it's worth making sure your internet is working properly. a few common ways to improve this are as follows:
    • minimise the number of apps or devices that are competing for bandwidth.
    • Try to be close to your router to improve signal strength, or switch from WiFi to a wired connection.
    • Restarting your router and your device can also refresh your internet connection.

If you've tried all the above to no avail, then it's time to explore some slightly more complex fixes.

Run Multiversus as an Administrator

This appears to have been an effective fx for a number of players:

  • Open Steam and navigate to your Library.
  • Right-click on the MultiVersus file and select Properties.
  • Select Local Files and tap on Browser.
  • Right-click on MultiVersus and tap on Compatibility.
  • Tick the box that says Run this program as an administrator.
  • Apply to select, tap on Apply button and tap OK.

If this doesn't work, you may need to go one step further:

  • Open Steam and navigate to your Library.
  • Right-click on the MultiVersus file and select Properties.
  • Select Local Files and tap on Browser.
  • Right-click on start_protected_game and tap on Compatibility.
  • Select the checkbox for Run this program as an administrator.
  • Apply to select, tap on Apply button, and tap OK.

Disable Steam Overlay

Disabling your steam overlay has been known to fix errors in other games, and some players have found it to be effective for MultiVersus as well. To do this:

  • Open the Steam client and click on Steam on the top-left side.
  • Tap on Settings and click on In-Game.
  • Untick Enable the Steam Overlay While In-Game and then apply changes.

Relaunch MultiVersus and see if the error is resolved.

Try Using DirectX 12

To do this:

  • Go to your game library on Steam.
  • Right-click on MultiVersus and select Properties.
  • Go to General, then enter -dx12 under Launch options.

Restart the game and see if the fatal error has gone.

Use Windowed Mode

Rather than using fullscreen mode, windowed mode may prevent the error.

  • Much like the previous fix, open your game library on Steam and right-click on MultiVersus.
  • Go to Properties > General.
  • Under Launch options, enter -windowed.

Relaunch Multiversus and see what happens.

If none of these seems to make any difference, then we'd recommend that you contact the MultiVersus Support Team for further advice and assistance. The more people that make them aware of this issue, the greater the likelihood that they will prioritise it for fixing.

What Is The MultiVersus Fatal Error?

It's pretty clear when players encounter this error. You will receive a pop-up box with the message:

The UE4-MultiVersus Game has crashed and will…

This is followed by the dreaded "Fatal Error!".

And while the message leaves us in suspense about what the game will do, the consequence for us as players is pretty clear. The game crashes, and you are left unable to play it.

As you can see from the wide range of potential fixes, there are multiple potential causes for this issue. The game developers are yet to explicitly recognise this issue, nor have they made any statement about what the underlying cause may be.

UE4 however, refers to Unreal Engine 4, which is the system used to build MultiVersus. So there is a strong likelihood that this is linked to Unreal Engine. But why, or what the specific trigger is, remains uncertain.

It's worth pointing out that while MultiVersus remains in Beta testing, these sorts of issues are to be expected. It's one of the main reasons they have these open Beta tests. We would expect issues such as this to be identified and resolved, so keep your eyes peeled for any game updates or patches, and install them as soon as possible.

In the meantime, try the solutions we've listed above. These are your best shot at fixing the MultiVersus fatal error. Hopefully, you will be back in the game in no time.

In case you are hit by the MultiVersus offline mode bug during gameplay or the KBI tutorial is not working for you, we can definitely help!
