While generally receiving a favourable reception, there is a significant issue with MultiVersus lag, which is rendering the game almost unplayable.

And while the issue has already been reported on the MultiVersus bug report site, it has yet to be formally addressed by the game developers along with other major bugs like the MultiVersus offline mode glitch, the online mode not working issue and the connection lost error.

So what gives? What is the issue with lag in MultiVersus? And what can we, the players, do if we encounter this issue? Well, that's what we shall endeavour to answer for you today.

How To Fix MultiVersus Lag

It's worth reminding ourselves that MultiVersus is still in its testing stages, so errors are an almost inevitable consequence. It also means that there are sometimes problems which are beyond our control. There is currently no end date for the MultiVersus beta, so these issues may be around for a while yet.

That being said, here are the steps we'd recommend you try, to see if you can fix, or at least reduce, issues with lag on MultiVersus. We'll assume you've run through the usual checks on your own network connection - testing other games, minimising the other apps and devices that are competing for bandwidth, and restarting your device and router to refresh your internet connection.

Check Your Server Region

Start by checking that you are connected to the closest server region. If, for some reason, you are connected to a more distant server, this can increase the risk of lag. To do this:

  • Open MultiVersus on your selected platform.
  • Click on the gear icon on the left sidebar.
  • Select Online/Legal.
  • Click on the dropdown box next to Preferred Server Region.
  • Select the server that you want to change to.

Conversely, if you are already connected to your closest server region, then it might be worth trying a different region, in case there is less traffic. Lower traffic means less pressure on the server, which can help with lag issues.

Check Your Specs

It may seem obvious, but it's important to make sure your system meets the minimum recommended specifications for the game. If you are trying to play using equipment that isn't powerful enough, then you're always going to run into problems. The recommended PC specs are as follows:

Minimum Specifications (Low Settings):

  • 60 FPS at 720p
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD FX-8350
  • Memory: 4 GB
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 550 Ti or Radeon HD 7770

Recommended Specifications (High Settings):

  • 60 FPS at 1080p
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon R9 270

Maximum Specifications (Ultra Settings):

  • 60 FPS at 2160p (4K)
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-3470 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Graphics: GeForce GTX 980 or Radeon RX Vega 56

Try Lowering Your Graphics Settings

While this may not give you the most aesthetically pleasing result, lowering your graphics settings may help resolve lag issues. So the game will at least be playable.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Click on Graphics.
  • Go through all the various settings and reduce them from their highest settings.

It's up to you how low you decide to go. We'd suggest putting everything on very low, to begin with, to try and maximise performance. And then you can start playing around with putting it on higher settings to see how this affects your lag.

If All Else Fails

If none of these fixes works, then unfortunately it might just be a case of waiting for the servers to increase their capacity, to reduce lag issues. You can certainly report this as a bug, and we'd also recommend following their official Twitter feed, as they will likely provide updates there.

What Is The MultiVersus Lag Issue?

The MultiVersus Lag issue seems to be affecting players on all platforms. And the issues are significant, with players reporting a wide range of problems.

For some, the players are thrown out of matches. For others, there are issues with rubber-banding, or teleportation, where their character suddenly turns up in a completely different part of the screen.

It's uncertain at this point exactly what's causing these issues. But it's worth remembering that the game is still in its Beta phase, so there are bound to be issues of one sort or another. It's possible that the servers are struggling to cope with the volume of traffic - this is a common cause of lag.

Whatever the underlying cause, we are hopeful that these issues will be ironed out before the full release of the game. MultiVersus has been enjoyed by plenty of people who have had the opportunity to play it so far. But lag this bad could ruin what looks to be a promising game.
