Left 4 Dead 2 is still a fan-favorite multiplayer game, despite being more than a decade old. A new VR mod has added some afterlife to the shooter, making it the most compelling it's been in years.
Created by Sky Yuki, the VR mod in question transforms the traditional first-person perspective into an immersive body cam-style camera. The result turns this already fun shooter into a thrilling VR experience that somehow makes zombies scary again.
Best of all, this VR mod is readily available for download here, so all VR players can try it out. Players will need a legal Steam copy of Left 4 Dead 2 to try out the mod but once that’s done, prepare for a realistic zombie experience.
It seems that modding popular zombie games into something new is quickly becoming a hobby for fans. We saw an impressive first-person shooter mod for The Last of Us, turning a Naughty Dog classic into a more brutal experience. Another fan turned the System Shock remake into a VR game, making it even more atmospheric and creepy.
Putting mods away, for now, there have been official VR versions of classic horror games. Doom 3 VR was a solid enough experience for PlayStation VR owners. Resident Evil 4 VR was also a really popular version of the game, giving players more options like dual-wielding pistols. There are also VR versions of Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village.
Created by Valve, Left 4 Dead 2 is still seen as the benchmark for multiplayer horror games. Fans have been begging for a third game but they’ve fallen on deaf ears as Valve is fully focused on Steam, unfortunately. Developers who worked on the first two games tried to make Back 4 Blood an alternative but it didn’t work out.
