How to charge Xbox Series X batteries: What to do if your controller runs out of battery

The Xbox Series X is finally here, and with it come a fair number of questions.

In this article, in case you don't know, we're going to tell you what to do when your Xbox Series X controller runs out of battery life.

After all, the Xbox Series S/X controller does run on AA batteries, so it won't last forever! And when you do see that 'battery running low' notification, here's what you need to do...

How to charge the batteries on the Xbox Series X controller

Sadly, there is no way to recharge those standard AA batteries that come with your Xbox Series X controller. And the controller doesn't come with any alternative way of powering it up.

There are plenty of options on the market, though, if you don't already have a system in place for charging AA batteries at home.

You'll need to buy special re-chargeable batteries (like these ones from Amazon), and a contraption that can handle the recharging process for you (like this one from Amazon) - click either of those links to see one of the options!

You could, of course, just buy some new AA batteries every time your charger runs out of charge. But that could become an expensive habit, and it's not good for the environment either.

Is there an alternative to using AA batteries?

In this, the year 2020, you might not want to be using AA batteries in your controller. You might prefer to have a battery pack which you can simply plug in to recharge.

If that sounds like you, here's the good news: Microsoft does actually sell an official battery pack, to save you having to worry about AA batteries. It's sold separately to the console.

You can click here to visit the official product page for the Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C. It costs just £19.99, which is a small price to pay for never needing to worry about AA batteries again.
