How to connect your Xbox Series X controller to the console

The steps you need to follow to connect your Xbox Series X controller are fairly simple, and we'll quite round them up for you now...

  • Press the 'Pairing' button on the front of your console (it can be found next to the USB port), holding the button until the white Xbox logo begins to flash in the opposite corner
  • On your controller, press the 'Pairing' button on the top of the controller (it can be found next to the Micro-USB port) - the Xbox button on the front of the controller should start to flash as well
  • Now that the Xbox button on your console AND the Xbox button on your controller are both flashing, they should find each other and sync up.
  • If this doesn't work first-time, keep on trying! If both lights are flashing, they should be trying to connect. Maybe move closer if it keeps not working.

NOTE: These same instructions will also work if you're trying to connect a controller to an Xbox Series S console.

Common mistakes when trying to connect your Xbox Series X controller

Don't forget that the console and the controller BOTH need to be in pairing mode, which is signified by the flashing Xbox button on either device.

When I was connecting up my controller, it did take me a minute or two to figure this out. And then, a couple of attempts were needed before the syncing was complete.

But still, once you've done this one, you should be able to use your Xbox Series X controller with this console as much as you like - or at least until the controller batteries run out!
