Fans knew that Starfield would be a big deal on Xbox, as the next big game from beloved Skyrim developer Bethesda. However, fans might still be shocked to know that the Xbox exclusive is now the biggest game launch Bethesda has ever had.
On Twitter, Bethesda thanked over 10 million fans for playing the game, claiming this is the biggest launch any of their games have ever had. The sci-fi RPG has even managed to outdo Skyrim and Fallout 4’s launch, games that launched on PlayStation as well as Xbox and PC.
Microsoft did advertise the hell out of Starfield, making sure it impressed fans with each of its gameplay presentations. In fact, the game’s first full gameplay presentation accompanying the Xbox Showcase ended up being the company’s most viewed online stream.
It also helps that fans themselves were hyped up for the game, as many players were excited to travel across the stars. None of them were deterred by the ‘Fallout in space’ jokes as that was exactly what they wanted from this Xbox exclusive Bethesda release.
While the RPG does have some of Bethesda’s classic bugs, there’s no doubt that this is their most ambitious game yet. Being able to run into other spaceships while exploring and getting into various firefights is everything sci-fi fans want from a video game. Add the upcoming story expansion coming and fans might not need to buy a new game anytime soon.
After years of hype and some excellent marketing from Microsoft, the success of Starfield was inevitable. The fact that some fans bought an Xbox Series just to play Starfield was proof that Microsoft had a winner on their hands. It will be interesting to see if this leads to the success the company wants, with Microsoft hoping players start getting Game Pass subscriptions.
Starfield is now available on Xbox Series and PC.
