Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC are getting a physical release soon but with some major caveats. Rather than package the base games and DLC in one package, this is just the DLC code in a box.

NintendoSoup reported that a physical release with The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero would be coming out. However, this release will only be available in Hong Kong, instantly limiting its availability. As if that wasn’t bad enough the DLC is just a code in the box, making it useless to physical collectors.

Worst of all, this physical release doesn’t even come with the base games. Gamers will already need to own Scarlet and Violet in order to use this physical release. Considering how easy it is to get the DLC on Nintendo’s eShop, this is pretty useless.

Hopefully, there are plans to release Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with the DLC in one cartridge. This actually isn’t impossible since Nintendo already did that with Sword and Shield, packing versions of both games with the expansion pass.

The Sword and Shield re-releases were actually really great for physical collectors. Having the base game and DLC in one package with no need for codes made it the ideal purchase for gamers. Fans have also been kind to Sword and Shield’s DLC, praising the expanded Wild Areas alongside the return of Bulbasaur.

Interest in the Scarlet and Violet DLC has also been hyped fairly well. While the DLC doesn’t seem to be improving the performance of both RPGs, having new areas and story content somewhat softens that blow. There might even be a connection to Legends: Arceus, as new character Perrin looks incredibly similar to Adaman.
