The Pokémon TCG (trading card game) will be ditching the iconic yellow border fans have known for decades, replacing it with a spiffy silver one. After generations of the same iconic design for Western cards, the infamously popular TCG will be receiving the redesign in time for its Scarlet and Violet expansion.

It was none other than The Pokémon Company who showed off the new silver borders on Twitter, while also promoting the Scarlet and Violet expansion. We get to see these silver borders on Smoliv, Cetoddle, and Lechonk, with more news on these cards coming soon.

Fans of the Pokémon TCG know that Japan has been using the silver borders for a while now, so this is a way to unify these collectables. Still, after growing up with the yellow borders for the longest time, we’re sure some fans will find the change a bit odd. Pokémon fans should get used to this quickly, especially if the art is good.

While these silver borders might get a mixed reception from fans, there’s never been a better time to be a Pokémon TCG player. In addition to these new cards coming soon, there’s talk of the original 150 Pokémon getting a new expansion, including the return of Kadabra. There’s also a new Pokémon TCG online game replacing the old one, which should smooth things over.

Pokémon itself is also a pretty hot topic online. The Pokémon Company confirmed that we’re getting a new Pokémon Presents video next week on February 27, with hints that the older games are coming to Switch. Rumours of a new Pokémon Mystery Dungeon game have also made their way online.

Anyone who plays or collects the Pokémon TCG will be able to pick up the Scarlet and Violet expansion on March 31. Speaking of Scarlet and Violet, those two games are readily available on Nintendo Switch, with a major update coming later this month.
