Breakdown

  • MudRunner VR is coming to Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro
  • The game is an all-new title in the MudRunner franchise, not a VR port
  • You'll be able to leave your truck to use items such as the winch

If you’re ever wanted to be a regulation trucker in virtual reality, MudRunner VR is here to make your dreams come true.

A standalone entry in Saber Interactive’s MudRunner series to virtual reality, this new Quest port of the all-terrain vehicle game aims to bring a new take on the ultimate off-road series to standalone headsets.

With the discontinuation of the original Meta Quest headset, MudRunner VR is releasing on the Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro.

MudRunner VR is not a conversion of the original game to virtual reality platforms. Instead, the virtual reality game is a new experience designed from the ground up with missions and environments created entirely for Quest users.

Players will be able to interact with every aspect of eight all-terrain vehicles as they trundle across harsh terrain. You’ll even be able to get outside of your truck to attach your trusty winch, refuel your ride and more.

MudRunner was already beloved for being a realistic and immersive driving experience on PC and console. However, developer Saber Interactive has gone above and beyond to create the most immersive VR version of the game possible.

Unfortunately, it seems that players will be engaging with a virtual wheel for Mudrunner VR whilst driving their vehicles. With no wheel support natively announced for the Meta Quest headsets, this disconnect may turn some fans away from the game due to its lack of physicality. However, for those who have already gotten used to the floaty driving of games like Bonelab and Thief Simulator VR, this should be fine.

MudRunner VR doesn’t currently have a concrete release date for the Meta Quest platform. However, the game is currently listed as “Coming Soon” and is available to wishlist here on the platform.
