It might have taken an embarrassing amount of time, but the current Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection is finally playable on Steam Deck. This is thanks to an update that made Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 playable on Steam Deck, after the initial launch only the first one playable.

Konami’s update on Steam was released, confirming that both MGS2 and MGS3 are finally playable on Steam Deck after months of waiting. While this should have been the case from its release, we’re just glad that this update was able to make these games playable.

Before this update, the only game in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection that was playable was the first game, which is shameful. Both MGS2 and MGS3 are PS2 games, and PS3 games if they’re based on the Legacy Collection, which means Valve’s handheld should have been able to play them without much effort.

Now that the Master Collection has been updated, all of these games have been given the coveted “Verified” rating from Valve. While most Steam Deck owners tend to ignore that rating, this does ensure that these games can be played out of the box with no tinkering needed. That shouldn’t be a surprise since, once again, MGS2 and MGS3 are just polished-up PS2 games.

Since Konami had to update the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection to make these games playable on Steam Deck, we hope they think ahead for Master Collection Vol. 2. Fans are pretty excited about the announcement of Master Collection Vol. 2, indicating that Metal Gear Solid 4 will finally be free from the PS3’s clutches. Konami will also likely add Peace Walker from the PSP and MGS5, though some of us are holding out hope for the Gamecube’s Twin Snakes remake.
