Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming out on PlayStation 5 soon, resulting in Xbox Series fans being salty over the delay. While the move is unfortunate, one of the developers in Larian has defended the decision to delay this version of the RPG.

Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing in Larian Studios, responded to a fan who claims that Larian Studios is siding with PlayStation in the console war. Douse admits that they would have liked to release all of the console versions at the same time but it wasn’t possible at this time.

“I respect your passion, but I’d like you to understand that the most advantageous situation for us would have been to ship on all platforms at the same time,” Douse said. “There’s no incentive for us to have done otherwise. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible this time. I hope they reconsider once it’s out.”

Larian made the hard decision to delay Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox so they could make the RPG playable on both Series S and Series X. Due to the Series S being much less powerful, the devs are working on trying to port down to this digital-only console.

Fans have suggested that Larian give up on the Series S but the company won’t budge, hoping to make the game playable on both systems. At the time of writing, there doesn’t seem to be any plans to cancel the Xbox Series version so players just need to be patient.

In hindsight, the delay of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox might actually be a good thing. The PS5 version is coming out on September 6, the same day as Xbox-exclusive Starfield. Had the RPG released on both systems, many fans would have ignored Larian’s efforts for the Bethesda exclusive.
