Microsoft announced Windows 11 last Thursday. The reveal has generated a lot of excitement about the potential for the new operation system. Windows 11 release
As yet, there is no definitive release date for Windows 11, beyond "later in 2021". But all the signs are pointing to a likely release at some point during October. Crucially however, Microsoft stated that while this will be the point at which Windows 11 will be released, the rollout to devices that already have Windows 10 won't happen until 2022.
This in and of itself isn't a total surprise. It gives Microsoft plenty of opportunity to fix any glitches before millions more people start using it. It's also worth keeping in mind the minimum system requirements to be able to run Windows 11: 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a compatible 64-bit processor. Do Windows 10 users get Windows 11 as a free upgrade?
When Microsoft announced Windows 11, they did confirm that eligible Windows 10 devices would receive a "free upgrade". It's great news for current users, provided their computers meet the minimum requirements for the software. If you are in that position, then at some point in 2022, you will be invited via Windows Update to download Windows 11, at no extra cost. While that means waiting a while (it could be mid-2022) the fact this will be given away for free, means it is probably worth the wait. You'll also benefit from problems identified by early adopters being rectified before you start using it.
