Hollywood is starting to open back up again to get butts in cinema seats. Warner Bros has already started work on The Flash and Aquaman 2, but another movie could possibly start filming very soon: Shazam 2.

Shazam 2 was announced back in 2019 following the success of the first film. With the movie utilising a large cast of child actors, a sequel was quickly greenlit to keep a sequel consistent. Of course, with the coronavirus pandemic, plans were delayed.

Shazam 2 filming date

It would appear that Shazam 2 will start filming sometime in the next few days. At the time of writing, multiple actors for the upcoming sequel have announced that they will be starting work on the project soon.

Firstly, main actor Zachary Levi revealed on Instagram that “Shazito. Has landed. In Hotlanta.” Secondly, Darla actress Faithe C. Herman revealed that she has already started working on the sequel.

No other actors have revealed that they are currently working on the sequel. However, with Levi and Herman already at work, it's hard to imagine they're the only ones currently at work.

What's new for this film

The upcoming Shazam sequel will have a bigger family focus than the first. While the first movie ended with Billy Batson’s entire Foster Family becoming superheroes, this sequel will expand on that. Additionally, all members of the Batson family will have new, updated suits for the sequel.

Titled Shazam: Fury of the Gods, the movie will see the superhero family take on a new threat. In the movie, the superheroes will battle Hespera and Kakypso, daughters of the Greek god Atlas. There's no confirmation on whether the movie will have a small appearance from Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman. However, considering the Greek god influence, it is possible.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods is scheduled for a June 2nd, 2023 release date.
