We’ve seen celebrities like Paris Hilton and Snoop Dogg endorse the metaverse before. However, it’s with a solemn heart that we report that Tony Hawk is disappointingly joining the pack.
The legendary skater isn’t just working on a skate-themed metaverse world, but it will also incorporate NFTs and cryptocurrency, giving fans the full metaverse experience for better or worse.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Metaverse
On Wednesday, Tony Hawk revealed that he had plans to build “the biggest skate park in the metaverse.” Creatively called Tony Hawk Land, this will be a new virtual world in The Sandbox that is “part virtual real estate, part amusement park.” Unsurprisingly, Tony Hawk Land will be built on the Ethereum blockchain and lets players purchase virtual land with cryptocurrency.
If that wasn’t metaverse enough for some, players will also be able to trade in-game items with each other through NFTs. Autograph will be creating NFTs based on Tony Hawk and some of his skateboarding equipment, including the skateboards.
“The Sandbox will make these NFTs interoperable in its open metaverse, turning Autograph’s high-fidelity avatars into 3D voxel versions that have in-game functionality for experiences, adding utility and value for their owners,” according to a press release (via VGC).

Tony Hawk loves technology
During the press release, Tony Hawk brought up how much he loves technology and claims that he is “fascinated” with the metaverse. Bringing up his video game history with the Tony Hawk Pro Skater franchise and the evolution of CGI, the legendary skater hopes that people enter the metaverse with him for some gnarly skating time bruh.
Hawk said: “I have been a fan of new technology all of my life – from the first videogames and home computers with CGI capabilities – so I am fascinated by the metaverse, and excited to bring our culture into the virtual landscape of The Sandbox.”
No release date for Tony Hawk Land on The Sandbox has been revealed. For a better alternative, fans can pick up Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. That game is good, and won’t try and rip you off.
