Last week brought many announcements from NVIDIA; confirmation of the 30 Series, Broadcast, and the benefits of the new ‘Ampere’ architecture.

While there were the equivalent of gasps on Twitter as the price of the 3090 was shown, alongside its ability to run games in 8K at 60 FPS, the star of the show was the 3070.

Stating that it had double the performance of the previous 2080Ti but at an affordable price, it looks as though more customers are looking to pre-order this card than the other two announced.

Which is why it’s all the more suspect that rumours have surfaced of a ‘3070Ti’ version appearing soon after, featuring some differences that could set it apart from the rest of the 30 Series.

With a ‘Ti’ version, it’s always best to use the card in question as a baseline, in this case the 3070. Featuring ‘Ampere’ and 8GB of GDDR6 video memory, it’s a card that’s mean to run well on monitors that are between 1080P and 1440P, alongside high refresh rates.

With ‘Ti’ or, ‘Titanium’ meaning to offer better specifications, there is a rumour that this variant will feature bigger memory at 16GB GDDR6 video memory. This can help lighten the load when loading those higher-resolution textures, or even streaming Fortnite when needed.

With the clock speeds on the 3070 beginning at 1.5GHz and boasting to 1.75GHz, we speculate that the speeds for a 3070Ti could begin at 1.7GHz and boosting to 1.9GHz. This can better differentiate the clock speeds between the 3070 and 3080, and in price too.

With the GeForce 3070 retailing at £469 from October, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see this card retail for around £599. Granted, the improvements won’t just be a memory increase, but perhaps a higher clock speed to differentiate even more between the 3070 and 3080.

Release Date

With the 3080 launching on September 17th and the 3070 in October, NVIDIA will want all the focus to be on these two cards, alongside the 3090 on the 24th September.

Once the benchmarking and even overclocks are tested on these cards have settled down, it may be until January that we see a release of the 3070Ti. Releasing a card that’s similar to another one so soon, could result in confusion. To release it once stock levels are high for the 3070, 3080 and 3090, and after the Christmas season, it makes sense to introduce any new card of the 30 Series until 2021.
