The concept of the Metaverse is one that has been around for decades. Compared to today's technology, it's really just an idea, not a product. Yet, over time, it has acquired a lot of meaning and has become a topic of interest. And yet, even today, it remains an idea that most people don’t fully understand. As such, many of us have a general idea of what it is, but no real grasp of the details. So, let's first establish exactly what the Metaverse is and its real meaning.
Metaverse: What is it and What is the Meaning Behind it?
First, we need to start with the meaning of the Metaverse. According to Dictionary.com, meta in Greek means "beyond" and "verse" is short for the universe.
The most common way to define Metaverse is "a virtual world" or "a place beyond the reality." Another more accurate definition of Metaverse is "a virtual reality that exists within the real world." In this context, Metaverse is a virtual reality that exists within the physical world, created and accessed by people in the real world.
Essentially, it is a computer-generated 3D world in which you can interact with other people and objects. Since it is a virtual world, there is no borders or boundaries for the Metaverse. There are no limitations and anything is possible. For example, you can go to a virtual concert, buy a virtual gift for someone, and even go on vacation with your relative on the other side of the globe.
For the same reason, we call it a "Virtual Reality" because it creates an illusion or simulation of the physical world inside your head, in order to give you the sensation of being there. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg explains the Metaverse as “an embodied internet, where instead of just viewing content—you are in it."
In its simplest form, the Metaverse is simply the next evolution of the Internet. Naturally, it's more than just an Internet-based 3D world. It's a combination of all of the technologies we use today, including social networking, virtual reality, augmented reality and wearable computing.

What is the Point of the Metaverse?
Today, the Internet is used to share information in a variety of ways, such as through email, chat rooms, blogs, social networking, and so on. The problem with the Internet is that it is a 2D environment. While it offers the ability to interact with other people and objects, it is limited in its abilities. Hence, the concept of the Metaverse.
The Metaverse, on the other hand, is a 3D environment, which means you can interact with other people and objects in a way that is much more natural. By comparison, the Internet is limited by the fact that the people you interact with are just pixels on a screen. The Metaverse, however, offers the ability to go beyond the confines of the screen, allowing you to see, hear, and interact with your world.
Furthermore, 2D is much less immersive than 3D because it only allows for a view from one perspective. In contrast, the Metaverse allows for a 360-degree view, making it much more engaging. With the Metaverse, we can communicate with each other, watch movies, play games, and explore the world around us in a more realistic and immersive way.
The Metaverse is the future of the Internet. It will allow people to go beyond their computer screen and experience new things. The Metaverse will be a place where you can meet people who are physically miles apart from you and interact with them in a more natural way.
