Is FIFA 21 on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X, Google Stadia or PC? Which consoles and platforms can play FIFA 21?

EA has officially announced that the latest iteration of the world’s biggest-selling football game franchise, FIFA 21, is coming to current-generation consoles this October.

The franchise will also be making the leap to next-gen consoles later in the year, too, when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are released.

The even better news is that if you’re planning to hold off until then to avoid double-dipping, you don’t have to! That’s because EA has confirmed free upgrades for those who buy FIFA 21 for current-gen consoles before upgrading.

The FIFA 21 release date for current-gen consoles has been set for 9 October. That’s only slightly later than its usual September release, despite the coronavirus disruption. Keep reading for more info…

Is FIFA 21 on Nintendo Switch?

A Nintendo Switch release has been confirmed for FIFA 21 on 9 October, but there’s bad news for fans. Unfortunately, the Switch version of the game will be a ‘Legacy Edition’.

This means that, while it will feature the latest kits and squad updates, it won’t have the new game modes or gameplay innovations included in the PlayStation, Xbox and PC versions.

Is FIFA 21 on PS4 or PS5?

The initial release of FIFA 21 will reach current-gen systems on 9 October, so you can fully expect to play this new game on PS4. The game will then be released for the PS5 when the console is launched later in the year.

The good news is that EA’s ‘Dual Entitlement’ offer will let you upgrade your copy of the game from PS4 to PS5 at no extra cost – a benefit that is redeemable until the release of FIFA 22. A word of warning, though... If you buy a disc version of the game on the PS4, you’ll need to make sure your PS5 comes with a disc drive. Otherwise, you’ll have to purchase a new digital licence.

Is FIFA 21 on Xbox One or Xbox Series X?

FIFA 21 will arrive on Xbox One on 9 October, as part of its initial launch. The game will then be released on the Xbox Series X around the time of the console’s launch later this year.

The Dual Entitlement offer, which lets players upgrade from the current-gen version of the game to the shiny next-gen iteration at no extra cost, applies here too. So if you buy FIFA 21 for the Xbox One and then treat yourself to an Xbox One X, you won’t have to buy it again. (Unsurprisingly, this doesn’t work if you switch platforms, say from an Xbox One to a PS5).

Is FIFA 21 crossplay?

Crossplay doesn’t look like it will be coming to FIFA 21, so PlayStation and Xbox gamers won’t be able to play against each other just yet. EA Sports is aware of the appetite for crossplay, though.

In a statement, it said: “Allowing our players to play against each other on whichever platform they play FIFA is a long-term goal of ours. At this moment we don’t have any news, but we’re continuing to investigate its integration and will share any updates when we have them.”
