The username must be between 3 and 20 characters long and it must be unique. You are not allowed to use spaces in your username and it must contain only alphanumeric and lowercase letters. Dots and underscores are accepted, except in the first and last positions.

1. Tap the profile icon on the top right.
2. Tap the 3-dot icon to open Settings.
3. Click on your profile name.
4. Tap Username and type in your new username which complies with the rules.
5. Once you are done, tap Change Username.

That's it! It is worth mentioning that the username will not be changed instantly. Your username will only be active after you post on the next BeReal notification.

In case you change your mind, you can go back and undo the change before the notification comes out by tapping the Cancel and keep my current username button.

BeReal Username Not Changing?

If your BeReal username is not changing, don't worry. As we mentioned before, the new username will only be active after you post on the next BeReal notification (that's the BeReal reset time). So wait until the next notification to see if your username has changed.

In case your username has not changed, you are not alone. There are many people who have their BeReal username not changing even after a couple of days. Fortunately, the devs are aware of the issue and they are doing their best to fix the problem asap.

A new update will roll out soon, which will probably include a fix for this issue. In the meantime, you can install the Beta version of the app as it has been reported to fix many common bugs such as the BeReal notification not working and the BeReal can't add friends issue.
