Recent reports have unveiled the development of a successor to the Quest Pro, tentatively named the Meta Quest 4 Pro, which is in the works and appears to be positioned to compete with the Apple Vision Pro.

The Meta Quest Pro didn't achieve significant success. It was killed just months before Quest 3’s release because it couldn't compete with the superior specs of Quest 3. However, the upcoming Pro version is speculated to bring significant improvements, potentially making it one of the best VR headsets available.

While the details may still be somewhat unknown, we'll make an effort to provide a preliminary glimpse into what the Meta Quest 4 Pro might potentially bring in terms of specifications, features, and more.

Meta Quest 4 Pro rumours

The Meta Quest 4 Pro is rumoured to be the most advanced offering from Meta, poised to showcase cutting-edge features including a powerful processor, micro-OLED display technology, higher resolution, and enhanced comfort.

A Korean news report suggests Meta is partnering with LG to release the Meta Quest 4 Pro. This partnership raises the possibility that the Quest 4 Pro could feature micro-OLED display(s), the same cutting-edge display technology found in the Apple Vision Pro.

The previous model, the Meta Quest Pro, utilised a dual LCD display. However, the potential adoption of micro-OLED display(s) in the upcoming version promises improved colour reproduction, deeper blacks, and an overall enhancement in picture quality.

Mark Rabkin, Meta's VP of VR, told The Verge that they "want to make it [the successor of the Meta Quest Pro] higher resolution for work use and really nail work, text and things like that.” So it is safe to assume that the Meta Quest 4 Pro will feature high resolution.

The depth sensor, which was a feature in the Meta Quest 3, is likely to be incorporated into the Quest 4 Pro to enhance the mixed reality experience. Improvements in terms of field of view (FOV), full-colour passthrough and overall comfort are also expected.

Meta Quest 4 Pro release date estimate and price speculation

Based on available reports, the Meta Quest 4 Pro is expected to debut in the market in 2025. Drawing from the historical release patterns of Meta's previous headsets, we can expect the Meta Quest 4 Pro to be released in October 2025.

The Meta Quest 4 Pro is rumoured to be priced at around $2,000, representing a $1,000 increase compared to the original Quest Pro's current price. It's unclear if the model will retain the same 256GB storage as the predecessor or possibly offer more.

Meta Quest 4 distinct models

Considering the rumoured name "Meta Quest 4 Pro," it appears Meta is adopting a strategy similar to Apple's approach with the iPhone, potentially offering multiple models within the Quest 4 series, including a Pro version, a standard version, and possibly even a Lite version.

In such a scenario, the Meta Quest 4 Pro would likely stand as the flagship model in the Quest 4 lineup, offering higher resolution, better processor, more RAM, advanced facial and eye-tracking functionalities, and enhanced comfort for an overall superior virtual reality experience.

Meta's decision to introduce three distinct models within the Quest 4 lineup affords consumers a valuable array of choices, enabling them to carefully tailor their selection to precisely match their individual needs, preferences, and budgetary constraints.

And that covers everything we know about the Meta Quest 4 Pro. We will update the article as new information emerges. In the meantime, have a look at the Meta Quest 3 Lite aka Meta Quest 3s VR headset which is set to hit the market in 2024.
