In what was one of the most pleasant surprises of last year, The Witcher TV series turned out to be rather good. The Witcher Season 2 is already on the way, and now Henry Cavill's new armour has been revealed!

The mix of comedy, action, and painfully catchy songs made season 1 one of the best video game adaptions of all-time. Sure, it was a little confusing what with the whole timescale thing, but overall, it was a really good show.

The Witcher Season 2 filming

The Witcher's second season production was forced to shut down temporarily in November, according to Deadline, who reported that four members of the crew had tested positive for COVID-19.

Filming at the Arborfield Studios near London was halted as Netflix carried out "an isolated round of testing of everyone involved in the show."

The Witcher Season 2 had previously been postponed filming in March because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming later resumed in August.

The Witcher Season 2 book: There could be big changes

In other news, CBR and Redanian Intelligence are reporting that there could be huge changes in The Witcher Season 2, especially when you compare the Netflix's series sophomore season to Andrzej Sapkowski's source material books.

The changes being discussed today revolve around Kaer Morhen, the famous fortress from the books that was portrayed as being pretty empty in Sapkowski's Blood of Elves book (which is believed to be an inspiration for season 2).

Only a handful of characters visited Kaer Morhen in the books, but it is reported that a lot of actors have just finished filming there: Emily Byrt, Chloe King, Sandy Amon Schwartz, Claira Watson Parr, Maria Raduga and Tash Soodeen have all been on-set at Kaer Morhen.

This makes us think that we could be seeing a new storyline take place, perhaps one that could see a big convergence of characters at Kaer Morhen - maybe there will even be a big battle there, rather than just the training we see in the books? We'll just have to wait and see, of course, but you can keep reading for more news on The Witcher Season 2...

The Witcher Season 2 trailer

We've got no trailer to feast our eyes upon just yet, so it's probably best to just rewatch Season 1 if you want a rough idea of what's going to happen in Season 2.

We definitely expect to more of Geralt, Cirilia, and Yennefer, but the exact adventures they'll be going on is a bit of a mystery (at least if you haven't read the books).

The Witcher Season 2 release date

We know that the filming of The Witcher Season 2 started again on August 17th, but we don't have a firm release date as of yet.

Apparently the series is due to release in 2021. That's a rather large release window. We'd imagine it'll be somewhere in the last half of the year though.

The Witcher Season 2 cast

In terms of the most important characters, we know that Joey Batey is coming back as Jaskier, everyone's favourite bard.

We also know that Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allen are all reprising their roles as Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri.

Aside from that, there's a rather long list of names listed as cast members, the vast majority of the first Season's cast is returning, but we've also got Kristofer Hivju, Thue Ersted Rasmussen, Aisha Fabienne Ross, Mecia Simson, Yasen Atour, Agnes Bjorn, and Paul Bullion joining the crew.

We've also got Kim Bodnia joining the crew as Vesemir, who is basically Geralt's tutor, and played an important role in training Ciri too. You might remember Bodnia for his turn as Konstantin in Killing Eve - he's a great fit for the Vesemir role, and another reason to be excited for The Witcher season 2. We'll bring you more news as we see it.
