As with any other electronic device such as the PS5 Media Remote not working, your Apple TV Remote is also prone to problems. Sometimes the volume buttons fail to work, and no matter how many times you press them, nothing happens. Luckily, this is easy to fix.

Here's some troubleshooting tips to make the volume buttons of your Apple TV Remote work again. Let's get started!

How To Fix Apple TV Remote Volume Not Working

Apple TV remote volume not working is a common problem that happens to many people and most of the time, it can be fixed easily with no need for any repair. If your Apple TV remote volume buttons don't seem to work, here are several things you can do.

It goes without saying that before using your Apple TV Remote to control your TV or receiver, clear the path between your remote and the front of your TV or receiver as volume control usually works using the IR sensor on the front of your equipment.

Charge your Apple TV Remote

If the Apple TV Remote is not working as expected, the first thing you should do is to charge the remote. A dead battery might be the reason why the remote is not working. If you have a Siri Remote or Apple TV Remote, charge it for 30 minutes using a Lightning to USB cable and a USB wall charger. If you have an Apple Remote, replace the battery.

Make sure HDMI-CEC is turned on

While volume control usually works using the IR sensor on the front of your TV or receiver, some receivers use HDMI-CEC instead. If your TV or receiver offers HDMI-CEC support, enable it. Since manufacturers often have different names for HDMI-CEC, look for a setting that ends in "Link" or "Sync".

Unlink and relink your Apple TV Remote

Your last resort is to unlink your Apple Remote from your Apple TV. To do that, hold down Menu and the Left arrow for six seconds. Then on your Apple TV, look for Unlink above an icon of a remote. Now, relink your Apple TV Remote by holding down Menu and Right arrow for six seconds. Then on your Apple TV, look for Link above an icon of a remote.
