Star Wars’ Han Solo actor jumps ship to the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Star Wars’ initial tenure with Disney did not go as planned. Alongside a mixed sequel trilogy, the studio’s spin-off stories didn’t perform as expected. Despite going as far as to make a movie all about a young Han Solo, the buzz just wasn’t there.

It’s unlikely that any characters from the Star Wars spin-offs will return in the future. However, that means one thing: they’re free for Marvel Studios to poach.

Han Solo joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In a surprise turn of events, young Han Solo actor Alden Ehrenreich is departing the galaxy far, far away for new pastures. Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Star Wars scavenger has signed on for a big new role.

Reported by Deadline, Alden Ehrenreich will be a major part of a new Disney Plus Marvel show. According to the report, Ehrenreich will play one of the leads in the upcoming Ironheart show.

While Ironheart will be mostly focused on newcomer Riri Williams, Alden Ehrenreich may be playing the villain. As it turns out, Ironheart’s first enemy will be related to the MCU’s very first villains.

In the report, it’s stated that Ironheart will face off against Ezekiel Stane. This is the son of Obadiah Stane, aka Iron Monger, the villain in the original Iron Man movie. While Ehrenreich isn’t confirmed as the villain, it makes the most sense for an actor of his calibre.

Is Alden Ehrenreich a good actor?

As negative press was circulating around Solo: A Star Wars Story, the internet jumped on board the Alden Ehrenreich hate train. In their mind, no one could replace Harrison Ford as Han Solo. What’s worse is that Disney also joined in.

With Solo looking rough, it was claimed that Disney had to give Alden Ehrenreich acting lessons before reshoots. However, these claims have long been argued against.

Whether or not that actually happened, Ehrenreich has been attached to a number of projects since. Most famously, the actor has starred in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie Oppenheimer, alongside other MCU actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Florence Pugh.

Even in Solo: A Star Wars Story, Alden Ehrenreich was a good actor. He may not have been the perfect Han Solo — that’s Harrison Ford — but he was a good alternative. In fact, he was one of the best parts of what is a very mediocre movie.
