CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a special ‘enhanced edition’ for PS5 and Xbox Series X, the popular Polish publisher has confirmed.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X box art for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition has been revealed, and you can see it at the top of this article. The use of the word ‘complete’ makes it pretty clear that the expansion packs, Blood And Wine and Hearts Of Stone, will also be included here.

“A visually and technically enhanced version of the game” is what fans are being promised, and you can keep reading for all the essential info…

What’s new in the The Witcher 3 next-gen version?

This is how CD Projekt Red described the upgrade in an official press release: “Developed to take advantage of powerful video-game hardware, the next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5 will feature a range of visual and technical improvements — including ray tracing and faster loading times — across the base game, both expansions, and all extra content.”

Will fans have to buy The Witcher 3 again on PS5 and Xbox Series X?

“The next generation edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available as a standalone purchase on PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, and as a free update for current owners of the game on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4.”

That’s the official party line from CD Projekt Red. It sounds like most pre-existing fans will not have to buy the game again, unless they only have The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch.

When will The Witcher 3 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X?

In terms of a time frame, all CD Projekt Red has said is that “a next generation edition is currently in development for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”

To us, this sounds like the release date is quite far off – so we wouldn’t expect this enhanced edition to be a launch title for either the PS5 or the Xbox Series X, both of which are expected to released before the end of 2020.
