While there hasn’t been an official announcement from Square Enix or Yoko Taro, a new interview with the quirky creator suggests he will make a new NieR game for his next outing.

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences released an interview between Sony’s head of indies initiative, Shuhei Yoshida, and Yoko Taro, producer Yosuke Saito, and composer Keiichi Okabe. While discussing the history of NieR, it naturally discussed the possibility of another game in the series and if Yoko Taro would be involved.

Funnily enough, Yosuke Saito said he is more than confident that a new game from Yoko Taro would eventually come out. Saito jokes that Taro would do anything for money, so a new game in the series could be made if Square Enix gives him a good payday.

“And I will. I will fork over some money. All that's left is for Yoko-san to decide whether he wants to do it or not,” says Saito. “But knowing how these two will do anything for money, I'm pretty confident that they will do another NieR. So personally, I'm very happy to have our fans looking forward to more from the series."

The series' surged in popularity after the release of NieR: Automata in 2017, which currently has an anime adaptation airing in Japan. And with the series now more popular than ever, a new game in the series would be the smart move. Yoko Taro has also expressed interest in re-releasing Drakengard, which is kind of a prequel to NieR, so more games from the creator could be coming.

Considering how fascinating and imaginative the game’s world can be, we’re more than interested in seeing a new instalment. As long as Yoko Taro isn’t forced into making a game or paid off to give his approval to a new developer, we’re interested in seeing where this series goes.
