MachineGames’ Xbox exclusive Indiana Jones game will mix camera perspectives to create a more cinematic gameplay experience.

Created by the developers of Wolfenstein, the currently untitled Indiana Jones game is expected to release sometime in the next few years. But what exactly is the upcoming action game?

In the latest episode of the XboxEra Podcast, insider Shpeshal Nick claimed that the in-development game will switch camera perspectives during gameplay. While the game will be third-person, there will also be numerous sections that take place in first-person.

“I don't know if it is finalized or not, because the game I think is still quite a bit away, but from what I've been told, from what I've heard, it's going to be both,” Nick said on the podcast. “Not like Starfield where you get to pick, but there'll be specific - as far as I'm aware, there'll be specific sections. Some will be in third person, some will be in first person. I have no more detail than that.”

When the new game was announced, many expected the title to be a third-person, Uncharted-like experience. Similar to prior games in the series, such as Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb or Staff of Kings, the game was expected to be entirely third person.

However, it seems that MachineGames will be utilising its experience in crafting AAA first-person narrative games for its Indiana Jones title. While the game may not have the majority of its gameplay in first-person, players will have the opportunity to engage in some systems from Indy’s perspective.

This wouldn’t be the first game to mix-and-match perspectives during gameplay. For example, Metal Gear Solid is famous for taking place in third-person, but allowing players to move into first-person for more precise aiming. It’s far from the only game to do so.

However, as Shpeshal Nick points out, MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title is still deep in development without any hint at a release date. While Lucasfilm isn’t happy about the game’s Xbox exclusivity, the game is still going to launch on the Microsoft-owned platform.

MachineGames’ last massive hit was 2019’s Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Since then the developer has made two spin-offs: Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot. The developer also created a Quake Expansion Pack, Dimension of the Machine.

Alongside its Indiana Jones game, the Swedish game studio is allegedly working on the end of its Wolfenstein trilogy. However, the studio has yet to confirm if it is indeed working on the new FPS game – we sure hope so.

The new Indiana Jones game will release sometime this generation on Xbox Series X, S and PC. You’ll also be able to play it on Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
