The Last of Us Part 2 Director’s Cut revealed by composer

Naughty Dog’s controversial sequel The Last of Us Part 2 is getting a remastered Director’s Cut. Discussed by a developer on the project, The Last of Us Part 2 Director’s Cut will include new scenes and missions not found in the original PS4 game.

In a recent interview, The Last of Us composer Gustavo Santaolalla revealed that a new version of the game is in development at Naughty Dog. With the company still working on its multiplayer spin-off, there’s a chance that this expanded remaster could release around the same time.

The YouTube interview, released in Spanish, revealed that there is a new version of the game that he stars in. While not many details were released, Santaolalla revealed that players will be able to go up to him and request him to play songs.

A remastered version of The Last of Us Part 2 for PS5 is far from surprising. The series’ original game initially released on PlayStation 3 in 2013, but a massively upgraded PS4 version was released just one year later. A complete remake was also recently released on PlayStation 5 and PC, although the latter port has been heavily criticised.

The Last of Us Part 2 originally pushed the PlayStation 4 hardware to its limits when it released in 2020. One of the most graphically impressive games of the last generation, Naughty Dog’s third-person action game was a technical showcase for Sony’s aging console.

For its PS5 debut, The Last of Us Part 2 could run at a full 4K resolution at 60fps, as well as improving a number of graphical features. While the game already has gorgeous pre-baked lighting, the introduction of ray-traced shadows and reflections could further improve the game’s realistic visuals.

However, at this point, any speculation is simply wishful thinking. While Naughty Dog’s past does lead us to believe that The Last of Us Part 2 Director’s Cut is in development, it has yet to be revealed by PlayStation. (It’s totally real though, isn’t it?)

The Last of Us Part 1 is currently available on PlayStation 5 and PC. A second season of the game’s HBO TV adaptation is currently in the works.
