Marvel’s Spider-Man gained a reputation for its spectacular gameplay and amazing costumes, the latter only expanding with its mod-capable PC version. With the possibilities being endless, one modder may have added the best-looking version of Spider-Man’s classic costume; the Scott Johnson version.
Anyone who grew up in the early 2000’s has probably encountered the art of Scott Johnson’s Spider-Man in notebooks or pencil cases. To many, it’s the version of Spider-Man they grew up with and is definitely one of the best variations of this iconic costume.
Now, fans can finally use this spectacular version of Spider-Man’s suit in the acclaimed Insomniac game, albeit, on Steam. Expect even more of Spidey’s costumes to be modded into the game until the sequel comes out, which will hopefully add more iconic suits.
Twitter user @Venturian628 showed off the Scott Johnson version of Spider-Man’s costume in Insomniac’s game and it looks great. Capturing the eyes, muscle tone, and colors perfectly, this is definitely one of the best costumes in the game and we wish it were official.
Some of the muscle tones are giving this writer Spider-Man: Web of Shadows vibes, though the Scott Johnson version is superior. Plus, the classic costume seen in Web of Shadows has smaller eyes and much darker colors, due to that game’s art style.
It’s a shame that we didn’t get a lot of variations for Spidey’s classic costume in Marvel’s Spider-Man, though it was understandable. The character has plenty of iconic costumes and Insomniac made a wise choice not to waste space on variants of the same outfit. Still, we would have accepted the Scott Johnson version or the costume in Amazing Spider-Man 2, among other variants.
Overall, it’s a great suit and that's why the Steam version of Marvel’s Spider-Man is the best one. If you haven’t yet, the acclaimed game is readily available on Steam and PS4. Fans that want the PS5 version will need to purchase the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
