Spider-Man 2 PS5 console and controllers targeted by scalpers

Spider-Man’s greatest villain returns: The Scalper. Following the reveal of the new promotional Spider-Man 2 PS5 console and controller accessories, the oh-so-obvious scalpers have returned to price hike the living hell out of the new PlayStation products.

Taking a quick trip to eBay and it’s easy to see just how egregious scalpers are being with the new PlayStation devices. Considering the fact that standard PS5 supplies are abundant enough to axe scalpers, the scummy salespeople have moved to the new Limited Edition version.

With a current retail price of £569.99, the Spider-Man 2 PS5 bundle comes with a Disc Edition console, the Spider-Man 2 console plates, a Limited Edition DualSense controller and a digital game code. However, on eBay, scalpers are attempting to sell the device for double that.

While there are listings asking for smaller price hikes over the console’s RRP, more egregious sellers are trying to get almost £1000 for the bundle, some even more. One listing in particular asks for a whopping £1,100, plus postage, for the Limited Edition console.

Scalpers are not only attempting to sell the console bundle at a markup, but also the individual items you get in the bundle. For example, the official Spider-Man 2 console covers are currently available for £54 RRP. However, numerous scalpers are attempting to sell the covers for substantially more, with most listings going over £100.

Scalpers are, of course, also hiking the price on the game’s new, very beautiful controller. Priced at £69.99 RRP, numerous listings ask for double that which, at this point, is to be expected.

Scalpers are having a field day with the large number of highly anticipated releases this season. Following the announcement of Starfield’s pricey Constellation Edition, scalpers immediately targeted the product to sell at a massive markup.

However, at the time of writing, these Spider-Man 2 PS5 and controller bundles are still available for pre-order at numerous retailers, at least in the UK. However, some fans are already buying the more expensive eBay listings.

Spider-Man 2 finally launches on PlayStation 5 on October 20th, 2023.
