Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 is set to be the biggest PlayStation 5 exclusive yet, and Head of PlayStation Jim Ryan has confirmed that the superhero blockbuster is pulling no punches.

In an interview with Japanese magazine Famitsu, Ryan confirmed that the upcoming Spidey adventure is pushing the new PlayStation hardware further than its ever been pushed.

Ryan explained that ditching the cross-gen release cycle Insomniac Games used for 2020’s Miles Morales spin-off has allowed them to push the boat out far further than prior games in the series.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales already boasted impressive ray-tracing and other graphical features in a sprawling open world, but Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 aims to swing far past its predecessors.

PlayStation’s Jim Ryan turned up the hype by saying that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has "no compromises" found in other console games. However, only time will tell just how far the game pushes PS5 console hardware.

Finally, Ryan explained that Spider-Man 2 is truly “beautiful” running on Sony’s latest console. The PlayStation head explained that the end result is as “impressive” as they come.

Spider-Man 2 doesn’t currently have a result date on PlayStation 5, but multiple signs point to September. Not only has the game’s Venom voice actor Tony Todd accidentally revealed that month as the release date, but multiple industry insiders have also pegged the game for a September launch.

In fact, Marvel is already deep in the hype cycle for the upcoming Spider-Man sequel. Just last month, a Spider-Man 2 prequel comic was released by the company to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.

After its release as a PS5 exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to come to PC in the near future. Following the success of the prior games’ PC releases, the new title should be another strong performer on PC hardware.

Insomniac’s version of Peter Parker has quickly become a fan favourite, appearing in numerous comic book events. The new version of Marvel’s iconic website even has an appearing in the new Sony animated movie Spider-Man: Enter the Spider-Verse.
