Marvel’s Spider-Man is being removed from the PS Plus game catalogue, despite being a Sony exclusive. Fans of the webhead and subscribers of the service have expressed anger at the move as Sony's ownership over the exclusive game means it's able to stay on the service if the company wishes.
Sony’s PlayStation Blog claims that the game is being removed as part of their “normal content refresh.” Joining the open-world superhero title as part of the removal are the Resident Evil remake and NBA 2K Battlegrounds 2. Fans expected that since they’re third-party titles, removing an exclusive has many befuddled.
This is the PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, as the Remastered edition can only be accessed on PS5 by purchasing the Ultimate Edition of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. PC players can easily buy the Remastered edition on Steam, though they have to settle for that horrible new face of Peter Parker.
It’s been an odd month for subscription services, as Xbox Game Pass also went through something similar. Quantum Break was recently removed from Game Pass, despite being an Xbox exclusive. Thankfully, the devs said they would be bringing it back after fixing whatever licensing issue is preventing its availability on Game Pass.
Unfortunately, Sony doesn’t have that excuse since they seemingly own all of Marvel’s Spider-man and a bunch of the wallcrawler’s media rights. Sony has a pretty firm grip on the wallcrawler, as they were able to prevent him from appearing in other versions of Marvel’s Avengers. Oddly enough, he was still allowed to appear in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, which is a Switch-exclusive game.
Despite the weirdness, we’re sure plenty of fans already have access to the acclaimed open-world game. To the surprise of no one, Insomniac’s superhero game sold millions and was a fun time to boot. It’s why many are hoping that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 lives up to the hype (and avoids any multiverse shenanigans).

Marvel’s Spider-Man is readily available on PS4, PS5, and PC, as is Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The sequel, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, is a PS5 exclusive and doesn’t have a release date, though Tony Todd may have leaked it.
