Spider-Man 2 actor tells fans to ‘get over’ Peter Parker’s new face

Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2 features the return of Peter Parker, but not his original self. Since the release of Spider-Man Remastered and Miles Morales in 2020, Insomniac changed Parker’s face, and fans are still unhappy.

In response to fans calling for Insomniac to return to Peter Parker’s original face, the game’s Spider-Man voice actor Yuri Lowenthal told fans that they need to just get over the alteration. After years of fans complaining, Insomniac isn’t willing to go back to the original look for the wall-crawling superhero.

In an interview with ComicBook, Lowenthal discussed the face change that occurred with the release of Spider-Man Remastered, making Parker a more Hollywood-pretty protagonist compared to his more scruffy original look.

"The performance was the same for me. I got over it as soon as they said 'Hey, we wanna make this change so that the facial animation is better’”, Lowenthal explained. “I said 'I'm all in!' I don't care if he looks like a goblin, if my performance is better, then I'm in. I'm kind of tired of talking about it to be honest, because I think everything that needs to be said has been said.”

The actor explained that he knows that some fans will never get over the change in Peter Parker’s face, but it’s time to give up the chase. Insomniac Games won’t be changing the face in Spider-Man 2 this close to release, and they won’t be changing it afterwards either.

“Some people will take longer to get over it, some people will never get over it. The one positive thing I take away from this experience is that people connected emotionally so hard and so deeply in the first game that they're mad when they feel that person changes,” Lowenthal continued. “I can only be so mad about that because it worked, not the change thing, but you connected with the character which is great. Now, get over it!"

Spider-Man 2 will be a huge game, featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, as well as the iconic symbiotic villain Venom. While some — myself included — are still torn up about the new face of the titular Spider-Man, Insomnaic’s latest game looks like yet another banger for the PS5.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 officially launches on PS5 on October 20th, 2023.
