Insomniac's upcoming PS5 exclusive Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has shown striking similarities to the Spider-Man 3 movie game, albeit with good gameplay and striking visuals. While Insonniac’s upcoming sequel will definitely be the Superior Spider-Game, the parallels that can be seen in both games are too obvious to ignore.
As pointed out by Twitter user @EvanFilarca, both games have Kraven the Hunter attempting to capture The Lizard while Symbiote Spider-Man tries to stop them. Hell, both games also have Peter Parker struggling to control his new suit while also putting on a tough guy voice.
If you really think about it, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 also copies The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as Harry Osborn is dying from a disease. Thankfully, he doesn’t call Spider-Man a fraud via bad post-production recordings but that can always change since the game hasn’t come out yet.
There’s no doubt that all media revolving around Spider-Man and the Venom symbiote go through similar motions. Peter gets infected by alien goop, he likes it, likes it too much, almost kills someone, then goes to church to pray the emo away. Even the most fabulous goth phase can’t handle the power of God and church bells.
Fans of the wallcrawler know that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t even the second game to use this concept. Spider-Man: Web of Shadows also had similar story beats and even used dialogue choices that Insomniac’s sequel is rumoured to have. At the least, Insomniac’s game will have good web-swinging and an un-annoying Spider-Man in Miles Morales to help Peter out.
Even if it’s far from the most original Spider-Man story, there is plenty of hype surrounding the game. Knowing that the game might include a showdown between Peter and Miles is intriguing as hell, especially if the former is Venom. We’re not sure if we want him to replicate the Bully Maguire dance scene though (we do).

No release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been announced, though Venom voice actor Tony Todd technically spoiled it. The game will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, though we’re hoping it gets ported to Steam after a year or two.
