Picking a TV is always a prolonged affair in which you inevitably swing back and forth between features; OLED, QD-OLED, mini LED, which one is right? And then there's size, because we always want a few extra inches if we can get it. But have you ever just had your hearts set on a 98-inch 8K Neo QLED? Well, we've got both good and bad news for you.

The good news is that if you need to fill a 98-inch home cinema space, or you want to show off, then Samsung QN990C is now available. You can only get the behemoth in South Korea right now, but we expect other markets to follow shortly.

The 8K TV from Samsung will set you back roughly £30,000 or $40,000 USD when converted from its native asking price of 49.9 million won. So this set is definitely for those with money to burn.

It features an 8K LCD panel, mini LED full array local dimming, and powerful 120W speaker system that has Dolby Atmos support. In true Samsung style, there's no Dolby Vision in sight, though.

Interestingly, as reported by HDTV Test, the 98-inch Samsung QN990C is using a TCL panel, further evidencing how the company has seized a significant chunk of market share in creating large panels.

TCL CSOT CEO Jun Zhao commented on this in a recent press release, stating that the consumer demand for these larger screen TVs is actually growing. It's no wonder, then, that the company has positioned itself to fulfil this demand.

We may laugh now, but as 8K inevitably becomes the new standard - whether in years or decades - we will want larger and larger TVs to really show off the extremely high resolution.

And prices of larger TVs like the 98-inch QN990C will decrease over time, until we're all checking out actors' scarily large 8K skin pores on our walls.

Don't say we didn't warn you.
