CONFIRMED: Classic Mario games are coming to Switch! Watch the 16-minute reveal video here


This year marks the 35th anniversary of Mario, ever since his debut on the NES with ‘Super Mario Bros’. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over three decades since we’ve jumped, bonked and collected all the coins and power-ups during that time.

But as Nintendo celebrated the occasion in 2015 with his 30th anniversary, there has been small rumblings of celebrations for his 35th. Things like the Mario LEGO kit and the NES LEGO kit have already arrived on the scene.

Ever since March, rumours have been abounding of a new ‘Mario Collecion’ hitting the Switch at the end of this year, covering his Nintendo 64 debut, up until Mario 3D World on the Wii U.

Which new Mario games were announced?

This is everything that Nintendo announced in the video...

The original Super Mario Bros is getting a special 'Game & Watch' product, which comes with a special gamepad. It will launch on November 13th.

Super Mario 3D World is coming to Nintendo Switch, with the popular 3D platformer launching on 12th December 2021. It will have an expansion called Bowser's Fury.

Super Mario Bros 35 will also come to the Switch Online service on 1st October 2020 - it's an online battle game where you compete against 35 other people around the world.

Mario Kart Live is coming to Nintendo Switch on 16th October 2020 - using augmented reality and a collection of physical toys, it will allow you to race around your own home!

Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels have been collected in a new special edition product called Super Mario All-Stars - it's available TODAY through the SNES section of the Switch Online service.

And finally, three iconic Mario games are being bundled together for Switch: Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy will be available on 18th September 2020 - they'll be sold together under the title Super Mario 3D All-Stars. The game's soundtracks will be available in the bundle, too!

What about events in the pre-existing Mario games?

Mario Kart Tour, the pre-existing mobile game, will have a special anniversary event - it starts on 9th September 2020. And there is a Mario event in Splatoon 2 scheduled for January 2021.

Mario Maker 2 will get a special anniversary course, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate will have a big event called the European Online Challenge Super Star Showdown (which is running in November and December).

Animal Crossing New Horizons will get some special Mario furniture in March 2021.

And there will also be new Mario merchandise, like clothing and Kinder Eggs, being sold around the world! Keep your eyes peeled, folks...
