Breakdown

  • Respawn's Star Wars game will use Unreal Engine 5
  • A job listing from co-developer Bit Reactor confirmed the use of UE5
  • Will this be the best-looking Star Wars game?

Respawn’s Star Wars strategy game is still coming out despite recent layoffs and it looks like the devs are going all out with this title. New job listings have indicated that this game is going to be made with Unreal Engine 5 in mind, which should mean a great-looking strategy title.

Bit Reactor, who are developing this strategy game alongside Respawn, posted a job listing for a Senior Lighting Artist (via Reddit). Under the “responsibilities” section, it was stated that this role is responsible for lighting and cinematics using Unreal Engine 5.

The job listing also outright states that this is a Star Wars game, even if they never mention what genre it’s going to be. Still, with Star Wars Jedi 3 not revealed yet, it’s easy to assume that this is for the new strategy game. It’s not like Respawn has a first-person shooter in the works, as that project has been canceled, unfortunately.

We’re interested in seeing how this strategy game is going to hold up, especially since there are so many games based on George Lucas’ cash cow these days. Considering how long it’s been since we’ve had a strategy game set in the Star Wars universe, this might be worth trying.

Respawn previously worked on Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which many say is one of the best Star Wars games in recent memory. The company also worked on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which started this video game Jedi trilogy. Considering the excellent work from both games, this could be another stellar effort from Respawn, if everything goes to plan.

EA and Respawn aren’t the only company working on a Star Wars game, with Ubisoft also working on the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws. That game also has a lot of our attention, since it’s the first time we’ll see an open-world Star Wars title. Hopefully, this upcoming strategy game is on the same level and gets similar hype, since the genre is a bit niche these days.
