Red Dead Redemption 2 is considered by many to be Rockstar Games’ magnum opus. This is why fans have made their own “remaster” of the game, albeit one that requires a hacked PlayStation 5.
On Twitter, a user going by illusion showed off what a remaster of the open-world title would look like. Unsurprisingly, the game looks great, and seeing it run at a smooth 60 FPS will have many players envious of this version.
While the PS4 version runs on PS5 well, it only has slightly faster loading times and runs at 30 FPS. It doesn’t seem like Rockstar Games has plans to release a 60 FPS patch or a remaster, hence the use of a jailbroken PS5.
Not having a 60 FPS version of Red Dead Redemption 2 on consoles is pretty disappointing. The PC version runs at 60 frames, currently making it the best version of Rockstar’s western adventure.
Impatient fans have done this numerous times with a hacked PS5. The most well-known mod is Bloodborne, as a fan was able to get it to run at 60 FPS on their system. Everyone else is stuck with the PS4 version, with no word on a Bloodborne remaster from Sony or FromSoftware.
Admittedly, Rockstar Games has shown interest in remastering some of their older games lately. Rumours claim that a remaster of the first Red Dead Redemption is in the works and might even come to Nintendo Switch. The company also released remastered versions of the first three PS2 Grand Theft Auto games but they received negative reviews.
Even with a remaster in the works, Rockstar Games is putting all of its efforts into Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar previously confirmed that they were working on it, though refused to call it the sixth entry. Soon after an early build leaked, showing that this project was real.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is readily available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
