A reliable insider claims that a Pokémon Scarlet and Violet graphics update will launch alongside a new Nintendo Switch model. After years of Nintendo Switch 2 rumours, it appears the new console may be on the way.

A source on 4Chan, who claims to be a programmer for a Pokémon outsourcing company, claims that a graphics enhancement patch is coming alongside the new Switch. It’s not the only bold claim from the supposed programmer, as they claim that this new Switch and graphics update will launch this Fall, coinciding with the game’s second DLC pack.

Adding some structure to this leak, the supposed insider correctly predicted most of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet news from yesterday’s Pokémon Presents. Everything from the Paradox versions of Suicune and Virizion to the DLC name “Hidden Treasure of Area Zero”, were all correct. Even the “Pokémon with a green mask” ended up coming true.

Hopefully, the leaker is right, as these new Pokémon titles are in dire need of a graphics improvement. The post also indicates that this new system will be backwards-compatible with old Switch games.

If we do get a new Switch by Winter 2023 it will be a huge move forward for Nintendo. Fans have been clamouring for a new device as modern developers are starting to struggle with the original’s aging hardware. We hope this also means graphics updates for games like Bayonetta 3, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and other titles that struggle on Switch.

This leak is much more appealing than what was actually shown in the Pokémon Presents video. Fans were disappointed, as the presentation primarily consisted of TCG announcements, a new Netflix show, and another Pokemon GO accessory. At the least, we finally got a release window for Pokémon Sleep.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are readily available on the Nintendo Switch. The 1.2.0 update is now available, fixing a few issues and adding raids for the Paradox versions of Suicune and Virizion.
