Pokémon GO gets criticised for being greedy, increasing the prices of Remote Raid Passes, and removing an update that made catching critters easier, among other things. However, the one thing it has over every other mainline game is that it has the most Pokémon of any game in the series..
Eurogamer did the math and confirmed that there are 814 Pokémon players who can catch in the game. This has broken the record of 809 Pokémon in a game, which previously belonged to Sun and Moon on 3DS.
While Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are about to add a whole bunch of critters, this is through paid DLC. Although the business ethics of Pokémon GO can be pretty reprehensive, the fact that it added all of these monsters via free updates is somewhat amusing.
Since GO is mostly focused on catching, seeing the mobile app have the most monsters to catch makes sense. It’s just shocking to see the app outdo the mainline games. This probably has to do with Game Freak removing the National Pokedex, making it harder for fans to transfer their favorites.
Pokémon GO recently added a number of monsters from Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea region, making it incredibly up-to-date. Not every creature from the Switch exclusives made their way to the app but enough did to set a record, apparently. If anything, adding every Paldean creature will make the app’s number even bigger.
On the flip side, Scarlet and Violet are adding numerous monsters from various games via their two-part expansion. The Indigo Disk has many fans excited, as it makes every starter from previous games catchable in the wild. Fans haven’t seen that since the Let’s Go! Pikachu and Eevee games on Switch or the underground sections in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
Pokémon GO is now available on iOS and Android as a free-to-play download. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are now available on Nintendo Switch.
