While the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection versions have received their fair amount of criticism on Steam since launching back in October last year, there's certainly one great thing about having official PC ports - mods. And the strangest one may have just released, with Metal Gear Solid 3: Crafted Edition sending the protagonist into the world of Minecraft. Well, kind of.

Created by modder Avaresst, who also developed the Metal Gear Jolly mod for MGS3: Snake Eater, MGS3: Crafted Edition replaces various textures with Minecraft or Minecraft-adjacent designs. However, the weirdest part comes with adjusted subtitles, that replaces key moments with Minecraft terms. Yes, it's pretty weird.

While we're still waiting for the Master Collection Volume 2, the trailer for the Crafted Edition alone will definitely satiate your anticipation for more modernised ports. Strangely, Avaresst managed to get The Boss voice actress, The Boss, to narrate parts of the trailer, and hearing her say "One must mine... One must craft" is certainly a weird feeling. Unfortunately, the narration is solely for the trailer, but it's still great nonetheless.

The description of the mod continues this uncanny vibe, stating that "Naked Snake heads into the Soviet Server to help the villager Sokolov disconnect [from] the west. However, the mission ends in a failure when Snake's mentor, a female gamer known as "The Blocks" unexpectedly disconnects to the soviet server. With the fate of the servers hanging, Naked Snake is forced to question the true meaning of being a gamer."

Fortunately, the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection is finally playable on Steam Deck too, meaning you could potentially run the mod on the best gaming handheld and give yourself another reason to play through the series. You know you want to.

While there are plenty of mods that will drastically change your experience, small and funny mods like MGS3 Crafted Edition will definitely give you some laughs and a fun time overall. We're excited to give this a try, and see how much the subtitles have changed during key moments.
