Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 developers at Insomniac Games have reminded fans that the new superhero game isn’t finished yet, despite an impressive gameplay showcase. While all signs lead to the sequel coming out later this year, the game is still in active development.

Fans who were expecting a bit more from the sequel asked Insomniac community manager James Stevenson if the game was finished already. Stevenson replied with a Seth Myers GIF that confirmed this sequel isn’t done with development, which should have been obvious to many.

Some fans are also unsatisfied with the way Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks, with some claiming that it looks “too similar” to the PS4 game. One fan tried to tell the community manager that the sequel isn’t a “true” next-gen game yet and Stevenson replied with an impressive Symbiote Spider-Man GIF.

While we would have liked a more animated style, it’s really hard to complain about the game’s graphics. It was made clear that the current-gen systems would improve aspects like loading and lighting, though visuals wouldn’t be too far off from last-gen systems. Even with all that being said, the amount of detail in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 makes it clear that this game couldn’t be done on PS4.

From the showcase demo alone, Spider-Man 2 features massively improved lighting, building materials, ray-tracing and even building interiors. For an open-world game created in such a short amount of time, it’s an impressive improvement.

Either way, Insomniac Games will be working hard to make the sequel’s Fall 2023 release, with September being the rumoured release month. However, the game could come out slightly later.

Here’s hoping that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 ends up living to our fairly high expectations, as the first game is a favorite of many. What we’ve seen from the PlayStation Showcase was fairly impressive and there’s a good chance that some things were done for the trailer. Either way, this game could easily be a Game of the Year contender if everything is nailed well.
