Insomniac Games’ upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature new technology to keep the wisecracking wall-crawler talking. Just like every PlayStation exclusive, Insomniac’s latest plans to keep its characters chatting non-stop.

During a recent livestream, Spider-Man 2’s lead engine programmer Elan Ruskin teased that some “very cool” dialogue technology is coming to the game. However, what this technology actually is was not explained.

Fans have speculated that Insomniac could be working on new tech to turn the new superhero game into a full-fledged RPG. While past games had RPG elements, they were still rather straightforward action games.

Many believe that new conversations in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will have branching options, allowing you to pick how Peter Parker or Miles Morales respond. Since the game features Venom and the Symbiote, we could get Good and Bad choices similar to Web of Shadows.

Another theory is that Insomniac’s new dialogue tech will focus on more fluid and realistic lip movements during game. Furthermore, we could see more realistic mask animals during superhero dialogue.

Whatever this technology is, Insomniac is likely to utilise it in its upcoming Wolverine game as well as its Spidey sequel. With the Wolverine and Spider-Man games set in the same universe, the two could even team up sometime in the future.

Alongside its Marvel universe, Insomniac Games could also be planning a Ratchet and Clank game. Judging by the developer’s history of chatty characters, its new dialogue technology is likely something that could be utilised in any one of its games in the future.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 this Fall. The developer’s Wolverine game is then expected for a late 2024 or early 2025 release.

The upcoming Spidey title takes place after the events of the spin-off game Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Focusing on a new incarnation of Venom, the title is set to be bigger due to its PS5 exclusivity.
