Latest Shang-Chi trailer reveals iconic Hulk character's MCU return

Marvel's latest trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings released yesterday to thunderous applause. As cinemas start to reopen, fans are excited to dig their eyes into some new Marvel content.

For the most part, the Shang-Chi trailer was more of the same. As a shorter, faster-paced trailer than what came before, it did a good job at showing more of the movie. However, nothing could’ve prepared fans for the ending.

Shang-Chi will fight Abomination

After the trailer ended, fans were given a Thor: Ragnarok style surprise. While Thor: Ragnarok’s trailer revealed that the movie would star The Hulk, this trailer featured an iconic Hulk villain: Abomination.

In fact, the setup for Shang-Chi vs Abomination is a parallel to Thor vs Hulk in Ragnarok. Whereas Thor and Hulk battled it out in a fancy space coliseum, this fight takes place in an underground octagon.

We're only treated to a tiny snippet of the fight in this trailer. However, we are given a great look at how Abominations has evolved over time. Since his last appearance, the villain has grown outstretched ears and is seemingly quite a bit spikier. It's a subtle upgrade.

Obviously, it's been quite a while since Abomination was seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character has been completely absent from the MCU since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk. Thankfully, with Marvel working to expand the library of Hulk characters in the MCU, we could end up seeing a lot more of him.

Marvel going all-in on Hulk

The first arc of the Marvel Cinematic Universe featured very little Hulk. The character was around for Avengers movies and his appearance in Thor: Ragnarok, but he only ever received one standalone film.

For Phase 4 of the MCU, Marvel looks to be providing Hulk fans with a lot of content. Not only is Abomination turning up in Shang-Chi, but a dedicated She-Hulk series is on the way. As the MCU gets weirder and weirder, it only makes sense for Marvel's Smart Hulks to share the spotlight.
