Despite recent rumours, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 won’t be hopping on the multiverse bandwagon. While Insomniac Games’ PS5 sequel is poised to be far bigger than its predecessors, the game won’t be hopping between multiverses. For now, that’ll be Ratchet and Clank’s turf.

Fans assumed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 would incorporate the multiverse following a product description of the game’s official toy line. A Miles Morales figure from Hasbro claimed that he was “making allies and enemies in the multiverse.” Thankfully, a Hasbro PR representative cleared things up.

"That was a mistake,” Hasbro told ComicBook.com. “The original product info inadvertently referenced the upcoming Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse film and was not meant to include any reference to the film or multiverse."

We’ve already seen the multiverse concept exploited into oblivion with movies and video games. Marvel is obviously the prime suspect there but we’ve also seen it used on Bayonetta 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Remake (kinda). Considering how Miles Morales is the conduit of the multiverse to many, it’s good to know that his and Peter’s second game won’t be treading that ground again.

Admittedly, there would have been some credence in having a multiverse storyline in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Fans who’ve read the Spider-Geddon mini-series from Marvel Comics will remember how Insomniac Games’ version of Peter Parker played a pivotal role. The #0 issue even teased comic book Superior Spider-Man helping Insomniac’s Doctor Octopus escape prison.

Furthermore, Insomniac’s version of Peter Parker is already set to appear in the upcoming Spider-Verse movie sequel. While it’s not known if the character will have a main role, he can already be seen in

Personally, this writer wouldn’t mind it if they just ignored all of Spider-Geddon entirely. After all, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 already has to introduce Kraven the Hunter and Venom, the latter of whom might be Harry Osborn. This isn’t even mentioning the possibilities of a Green Goblin debut and maybe even a returning Doctor Octopus.

No release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been announced, though Venom actor Tony Todd accidentally revealed the release window. If he’s right, the game should be coming to PlayStation 5 sometime this September.
