Horizon Forbidden West continues the trend of PlayStation games selling well on PC, as the sequel has managed to do better than expected. Considering how the game was leaked around the same time it came out, this goes to show that convenience beats piracy any day of the week.
Circana’s Mat Piscatella wrote about the Horizon sequel’s surprise success on Twitter, revealing that it made the top 10 best-selling games in the week of March 23rd. Prior to this, Forbidden West wasn’t even in the top 100, showing that the PC audience likes PlayStation games as much as PS5 owners.
While Horizon Forbidden West came out on PS5 first, the Complete Edition with all the DLC did get a simultaneous release on PS5 and PC. Fans probably shouldn’t expect Helldivers 2 numbers, but the sales show that Sony finally has that second market.
The PC version of Forbidden West launched well, not having a ton of issues reported at the time of writing. Even Steam Deck owners can play the game with little issue, with updates promising a much better experience for handheld PC owners. Most Sony games have fared well on Valve’s handheld, with even The Last of Us Part 1 getting Steam Verified after numerous patches.
More PlayStation PC ports have already been announced and we can only hope that they run as well as Horizon Forbidden West does. Ghost of Tsushima was announced recently, with the devs even prioritizing handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, which is always good to hear. Fans are also hoping to get God of War Ragnarok or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, though those will likely come out in a few years.
Horizon Forbidden West came out to fairly positive reviews on release, with critics praising the improvements made to the gameplay and gorgeous graphics. There were some internet fans who were too hyperbolic and sexist about Aloy’s appearance, but these sales prove that they don’t matter.
Fans can pick up Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on PS5 and PC. PS4 owners can still buy the base game, but they won’t be getting the Burning Shores expansion.
