If you were hoping to finally sink your teeth into Homeworld 3, we’re sorry to disappoint. Set to release next month, developer Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox has officially delayed the game for a fourth time.
Homeworld 3 was announced to release sometime in 2022. Afterwards, the game was pushed to 2023, then February 2024. The game then received what was expected to be a final delay to March 2024. That hasn’t stuck.
Blackbird Interactive and publisher Gearbox Software has now revealed the new Homeworld 3 release date of May 13, 2024. For those who aren’t sold on the upcoming RTS game, you’ll also be able to try a limited-time demo as part of Steam Next Fest.
Announcing the delay, the team explained that recent playtests of the game are the reason behind the new delay. Following fans’ experience with a near-final build of the game it became clear that more changes had to be implemented.
“Watching you share your experiences, exchange and debate strategies, and give us constant feedback has been incredible. This was our first time seeing the game played at scale, which is always an equally thrilling and nerve-wracking moment,” the team announced.
“We also recently gathered a dedicated group of players from outside our organizations to play through the full game. This resulted in additional insights and perspective that will be incorporated to make Homeworld 3 the best experience possible.”
While Homeworld 3 does now officially launch on May 13, 2024, fans can also purchase Advanced Access to play the game slightly early. Those who pay extra to play slightly earlier will be able to play the game on May 10, 2024.
Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Software originally revealed Homeworld 3 for the series’ 20th anniversary in 2019. Since then, the game has been constantly delayed to give fans the game they’ve been craving since Homeworld 2 released in 2003.
The new game is still built around the franchise’s 3D ballistics system that gives realistic effects to the games’ epic space battles. Homeworld 3 adds brand-new features to play with these systems, including space trenches to protect your units and also look sick.
With fans waiting over a decade and a half for a brand-new game in the series, Homeworld 3 will hopefully be the game fans wanted.
