Warner Bros. and HBO are planning to turn Hogwarts Legacy into a TV series after the game’s enormous success. Considering how this RPG single-handedly brought interest back to the Harry Potter franchise, the news isn’t too surprising.
Giant Freakin Robot claims that HBO is in the early phases of bringing the show to life. Though details are slim, the report claims that the show will be set in the 19th century, way before the events of Harry Potter and even Fantastic Beasts.
Fans should take the news with a pinch of salt, but a Hogwarts Legacy show would make a ton of sense. Streaming services are still fairly popular and HBO Max could use the boost after axing a number of their beloved cartoons and shows. As long as they don’t try to force in mainline Harry Potter references, everything should be fine.
Even if we don’t get a series, the game’s success already speaks for itself. The game continues to sell copies by the millions and prior to its Switch or last-gen release. It goes to show just how dedicated fans are to live out their OC lives in a Harry Potter game.
Unfortunately, despite the game getting positive reviews and seemingly being of quality, there is still the matter of author J.K. Rowling. Due to the author’s bigoted rhetoric surrounding the transsexual community, many have boycotted the Harry Potter creator.
Nevertheless, millions have made it clear that they care little for Rowling, but a lot for Harry Potter. As one of the largest cultural media franchises in the past two decades, Pottermania has yet to dissipate even after the shockingly terrible Fantastic Beasts films.
As long as gamers won’t be making excuses for their purchases, they can pick up Hogwarts Legacy on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC right now. Last-gen versions of the game are slated to come out sometime this year.
